Church of St. James in Okonina

In Okonina stands the Church of St. James, first mentioned in 1455. Its architecture changed over the centuries, with an important mark left by the renovation after the fire of 1934, which also engulfed part of the village. It acquired its present appearance in the 1980s.

Built on a gentle rise above the village, its floor plan resembles the Church of St. Francis in Radmirje. Its present form dates from the rebuilding in the 18th century, when it became a pilgrimage point to the altar of Ignatius of Loyola. The main and side altars, artistic Baroque works, date from the beginning of that century. In 1989 the burnt roofs above the lanterns of the domes were also restored.
