Below Velenje Castle on Castle Hill, a new ski jumping centre with as many as six ski jumps was opened in the spring of 2017. The jumps are of sizes HS 70, HS 45, HS 25, HS 15, HS 9, and the smallest, K5. The former jumps were demolished because they did not have a building permit. As part of the construction of the jumps, the club premises and the judges' tower were also renovated, a new safety fence was installed, and the spectator stands and the surroundings of the jumps were arranged. The Velenje Ski Jumping Club has a tradition of more than 60 years and in 2016 received an award for its work – the coat of arms of the Municipality of Velenje.
Competitors in ski jumping and Nordic combined compete in the Continental, Alpine, and World Cups and take part in games within the OPA Alpine Cup and the European Youth Olympic Festivals.
The Municipality of Velenje carried out the construction of the new HS 45 and HS70 jumps with the accompanying judges' tower and pumping station for the jumps. The value of the investment amounted to 561,208 euros. Of this, the municipality provided funds in the amount of 390,538 euros, and the foundation for sport contributed 59,400 euros. The remaining funds were received from state funds intended for municipalities to co-finance investments. The former jumps were demolished, as they did not have a building permit.
The new jumps meet the latest ski jumping techniques and are suitable for training younger selections in both women's and men's competitions. As part of the construction of the jumps, the judges' tower and club premises were also renovated, a new safety fence was installed, and the spectator stands and surroundings were arranged. The value of the additional works amounts to 44,688 euros.
