Parish of St Cantianus in Rečica ob Savinji

The Parish of Rečica ob Savinji, dedicated to St Cantianus, encompasses the area of the Municipality of Rečica ob Savinji and part of the Municipality of Nazarje. The parish includes the churches of St Cantianus in Rečica, St John the Baptist in the field, St Catherine in Gorica and the Virgin Mary in Kokarje.

In Rečica ob Savinji, the central settlement of the Upper Savinjska Valley, around 3000 people live, most of them Catholics. In 2021, Aleksander Koren was appointed parish administrator.

The place has a long history, having first been mentioned in 1231, when the Patriarch of Aquileia Berthold of Andechs passed judgement on two robbers in the local church. Over the centuries it developed into an important settlement, which acquired judicial rights in 1585. Among the features of the place are historical monuments such as the pillory stone, the Tavčar manor and the Church of St Cantianus, newly built in 1804 after a fire.
