Koča na Travniku Mountain Hut

 Koča na Travniku

The mountain hut on Travnik (1548m) was completed in 1978 for the needs of the Ljubno Mountaineering Club and Slovenian mountaineering. The hut stands along the Slovenian Mountain Trail between Smrekovec and Raduha. Mali and Veliki Travnik (with the highest point called Turnovka) are part of the Smrekovec range, together with Smrekovec, Krnes and Komen.

Koča na Travniku has 15 beds, 24 seats inside and 80 seats outside the hut. General information and details about the opening hours of Koča na Travniku and all mountain lodges in Slovenia can be found on the PZS website. Otherwise, the hut is open on weekends from late April to late October. Duty shifts are taken by members of the mountaineering club and can be viewed on the club's website.

To the east we see Komen, the highest peak of the Smrekovec range, and its southern slopes, which fall into the narrow valley of the Žep and Krumpah streams; to the left of Komen, beyond the Hlipovec pass, we also see Uršlja gora; to the southwest, above the Ljubnica valley, rise the western slopes of Golte; to the south, above the Zadrečka valley, rise Dobrovlje, Menina planina and Veliki Rogac, and to the west of it are the Dleskovška plateau and the eastern part of the Savinja Alps between Velika planina and the valleys of the Lučnica and Savinja; to the west we glimpse here and there through the trees Ojstrica and Raduha; on the northern side, 15 minutes away, is the summit of Travnik, which the locals call Turnovka. From Travnik there is a wonderful view across the Savinja Alps to the west, towards Peca and the Klagenfurt Basin to the north, and in clear weather also to the High Tauern with the Grossglockner, while to the east all the way to the peaks in the Croatian Zagorje and to Medvednica.
