Tirske peči Natural Monument

The Tirske peči Landscape Park is located in the area of the municipality of Ljubno ob Savinji. It was established with the aim of protecting the habitat where the golden eagle nests. In 1997 the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning declared Tirske peči a natural landscape park. The park lies in the area of the Golte plateau, which to the north ends in the cliffs of Tirske peči. The name derives from the Tiršek farm, which is in the immediate vicinity of the park. The park covers approximately 300 hectares, which represents a smaller part of the wider area. A special feature of the park is the various animal species that live here. Among the largest birds is certainly the golden eagle, which nests here. The Eurasian eagle-owl also once nested in the park, but lately it is only observed occasionally. The peregrine falcon was once a nester here as well, but the presence of recreational climbers drove it from its natural habitat. The Tengmalm's owl and the tawny owl are permanent residents of Tirske peči. Preserving these birds and their habitat is crucial, which is why it is important to respect the regulations laid down by the act establishing the park.
