Igla

 Igla

A mighty rocky loner that has been protected as a natural monument since 1948.

Igla is located along the regional road between Luče and Solčava, in the narrowest part of the gorge that the Savinja carved between the steep slopes of Raduha and the Dleskovška plateau.

A 40-metre-high rocky obelisk is separated from the parent wall by a 2-metre-wide crack that resembles the eye of a needle. Until 1894, when a road was built along the riverbed, the only footpath to Solčava led through this crevice.

An old legend tells of the origin of Igla. According to this legend, a pagan maiden is said to have lived in the valley, so tall that she stood with one foot on Raduha and the other on Veža and washed laundry in the Savinja river. One day, while she was sewing a shirt, her needle broke in the coarse linen. The maiden grew angry and threw the needle into the valley, where it stuck into the slope and has remained there to this day.

Igla can be circled on foot (15 min) and below it we can also see the Intermittent Spring (Presihajoči studenec), which is locked into a small cavity right next to the main road.
