Snežna Cave

 Snežna Cave

Snežna Cave is located on the south-western slope of Raduha at an altitude of 1556 metres. It is the highest-lying cave in Slovenia arranged for tourist visits.

This gem of the Alpine karst remained undiscovered for many years due to a period of eternal snow that covered the cave. The entrance to the cave was revealed when, owing to hot summers, the long-standing snow and ice finally melted and the entrance to an ice abyss more than 20 metres deep opened up.

In 1981 members of the Črni galeb caving club from Prebold began to explore the cave.

The cave is more than 1300 metres long, of which more than 800 metres of the cave is arranged for tourist visits. Because of its beauty, the cave milk, ice sculptures and dripstone decoration, and because of the guided tours by the glow of carbide lamps, a visit to the cave is an unforgettable caving experience. Visit

Snežna Cave is open every weekend and on holidays from July to the end of August, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Guided tours take place every two hours. Tickets and information for visiting the cave are available at the sales point in front of the cave.

When purchasing tickets, payment is possible only in cash or by order form arranged in advance. For larger groups (over 20 people) a visit is also possible outside the schedule with prior notice. The price for a group outside the schedule of up to 20 people is 250 €, and over 20 people according to the price list.

We advise that you arrive at the cave at least 15 minutes before the desired tour time. In principle, the cave is suitable for anyone who is able to reach it. An obstacle may be a fear of enclosed spaces or a fear of heights (the entrance part of the cave).
