It is the smallest of the valleys in the Solčava area (the other two are Logarska Dolina and Robanov Kot) and somewhat removed from the main routes. This peaceful valley got its name after the (ancestral) Matk farm on its slope – there are four mountain farms in Matkov Kot. A few centuries ago, so the legend goes, there was supposedly a glacial lake in Matkov Kot. The water was held back by a natural dam, which is said to have collapsed, and the lake drained out of Matkov Kot. The stream that flows through the valley is still called Jezera (the Lakes) today, which is reminiscent of the valley's distant past. The main natural attraction of the valley is the Matkov škaf, a crater-like snow basin that in spring is carved out by a strong waterfall about 40 m high.
