Where Velenje began.
The Staro Velenje mini destination, also known as the Staro Velenje local community, is the cradle of today's Velenje. Home to around 1,200 residents, it is the oldest part of the City Municipality of Velenje, stretching from the Elektro company and the Hofer store to the Velenjka shopping centre, and from the Velenje railway station along Ljubljanska cesta all the way to the Kavče local community. Besides the old town centre (Stari trg), which lies at the foot of the hill crowned by the mighty Velenje Castle, it also covers Ljubljanska, Žarova, Celjska and Partizanska cesta, as well as Cesta Talcev, Srebotnikova and Štrbenkova cesta.
The mini destination is rich in tourist attractions, cultural heritage, eateries and businesses...
Let us introduce the sights:
Velenje Castle, the Church of St. Mary, the Church of St. Jakec, the Koželj viewpoint and the Velenje ski jump. In the old town centre you can also visit the House of Minerals.
You are warmly invited to the STARI TRG café, known for its homemade desserts made without additives, following old recipes handed down from generation to generation. You can also try their after-eight coffee, whose recipe earned the café's manager a gold medal.
Havana bar Velenje serves delicious cocktails and other drinks. From time to time they also host parties with live music.
You can enjoy excellent food at Pizzeria Picadilly. Located on a corner of Staro Velenje, it has been with us since 1995. They offer no fewer than 29 kinds of delicious pizzas, and customers can even put together their own pizza that is not on the menu. Freshly prepared salads are always available to order. And to make the offer even more varied, the choice also includes noodles with cheese, meat or seafood, soups, a range of steaks and stuffed rolls.
For a quick bite, there is Pekarna Arena, a bakery open every day from 05:00 to 24:00.
