Why Digitize the "Kam v okolici" Map Billboard

Every digitized point on a printed map or marked information board comes with up-to-date content, accessible via a QR code.

TT Board - Kam v okolici Terme Topolšica d.d. has placed a physical board, or rather a poster, in front of its hotel to let guests know where they can go in the surrounding area. Besides viewing the map, guests can scan a QR code that takes them to the interactive map on the website Terme Topolšica - Places to See.

The themed map shows 20 places to see plotted on a Google map, giving visitors excellent orientation: where things are and where to find what they need. The places to see are also displayed below the map, which gives them additional informative value, since visitors can simply click for more information or directions to a point.

Boards with "Places to See" points have been put up elsewhere as well, but the one at Terme Topolšica is special, as it offers curated digitized content describing the points shown on the map. This content is accessed by scanning the QR code on the board. The offer of each individual point thus stays current at every moment, since it does not depend on printed material but on the data maintained on the website the QR code on the board links to. With this approach, the board becomes a communication point that keeps guests and passers-by informed about everything happening at the points it displays.

??? Why Digitize the "Kam v okolici" Board

  • Any printed content is a snapshot of a moment in time, showing a state we believe to be accurate at that moment.
  • All printed content ages, especially when what it shows is dynamic. Providers and the offer change daily. New ones arrive and existing ones change. The more stable content comes from the "Places to See" points, which present cultural heritage and natural attractions.
  • A QR code makes it possible to change and update the content and offer of the points on the map. Each QR code connects via an internet call to content that is kept up to date on that point's website. Digitizing a printed board in a public place is not about the digital artwork it was printed from at the moment of printing; digitizing a board means access to curated, up-to-date content at the very moment the QR code is scanned with a smartphone.
