
Žovnek Lake in Podvrh, which with a surface area of 49 hectares is the largest lake in the Municipality of Braslovče, was created by damming the Trnavec stream and serves primarily for irrigating agricultural land. In addition to its economic function, the lake is a true paradise for bird lovers. According to data from the Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation, Celje Regional Unit, as many as 111 bird species live here, which contributes to the rich biodiversity of the area.
Because of its ecological importance, Žovnek Lake, together with the surrounding water area, is designated as an ecologically important area, as it plays a key role in preserving natural habitats and species.
