Hidden in the embrace of nature, atop a rocky rise in the village of Lokovina above Dobrna, Dobrna Castle once stood mightily. Today visitors can glimpse it only in the form of ruins, but its story lives on.

The legend of the Snake Castle

The name Snake Castle is no coincidence. According to legend, during that period the castle was settled by a mysterious noble family whose coat of arms was adorned with a snake. It is said that this snake had a special meaning – either as a symbol of power and authority or as a guardian of hidden treasures said to be somewhere beneath the castle.

Today there are three original coats of arms, carved in stone and white marble, which we call the "speaking coats of arms". One of them clearly depicts a snake and testifies to the mysterious period when Neuhaus was for a short time the Snake Castle.
