Villa Široko Šoštanj

Villa Široko is a wonderful historic villa located above Šoštanj. It was built in the 19th century and is surrounded by a beautiful park, offering wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Villa Široko is known for its architectural beauty and its cultural and historical significance.

Villa Široko was built by Herbert Woschnagg, the owner of the Šoštanj tannery, in 1939 in a mixture of modernism and Art Nouveau. It was surrounded by a freely landscaped (English) park with a swimming pool and a tennis court.

On the courtyard fountain sat Napotnik's statue The Young Faun – the faun lives in the mythical ideal land of Arcadia, and the villa with its surroundings was likewise meant to be an ideal, unearthly abode. The villa is privately owned and not open to the public.
