Koželj is a popular hill in the southeastern part of the Saleska Valley and is considered the most accessible hill for the residents of Velenje. It is a frequently visited destination, suitable for relaxation and recreation throughout the year.
Koželj boasts three peaks: Veliki Koželj (580 m), Koželj (590 m) and Mali Koželj (501 m). On the highest peak, at an altitude of 580 m, there are tables and benches as well as a small box with a visitors' book where hikers can sign in.
Three marked trails lead to the top: the Family Trail, the Music Trail dedicated to the composer Fran Korun Koželjski, and the Mountain Trail, which is part of the Šalek Mountain Trail.
The climb up Koželj rewards hikers with a stunning view of Velenje Castle, the Velenje basin and the surrounding hills. On a clear day, the view extends all the way to Pohorje, Uršlja gora, Peca and Smrekovec.
Owing to its accessibility and wonderful views, Koželj is very popular among locals, many of whom climb to the top even on a daily basis.
