Smrekovec (1570 m) is a popular spot where the ridges of Golte (the Mozirje highlands) meet the ridge that extends westward across Krnes, Kamen and Travnik towards Raduha above Solčava. This rugged terrain is known for its picturesque views and rich natural heritage. From the Saleska Valley, Smrekovec stands out with its conical shape, which is very popular among locals and hikers.
In the courtyard of the Kolenc Farm at the address Peče 8 grows an exceptional tree – a large-leaved linden, around 150 years old. Its mighty crown and trunk, measuring more than 400 centimetres in circumference, bear witness to the long-standing bond between nature and people. In 1979 the linden was damaged by lightning, which left it hollow, yet it still stands proudly, complementing the architecture of the farm and telling the stories of the past.
According to oral tradition, the linden is said to have gained its place on a special occasion – it was reportedly planted at the first mass of a Ljubno chaplain. Today the Kolenc linden is a natural symbol of local history and landscape beauty that invites visitors to come and admire its grandeur.
The Kolenc linden is not only a natural monument, but also part of the rich history and tradition of the Saleska Valley. Come and see its beauty for yourself and enjoy the wonderful views of the surroundings.
