Cuc Waterfall

 Cuc Waterfall

Cuc is the collective name for several consecutive waterfalls in the Riharska grapa ravine on a tributary of the Lučnica at the foot of Mali Rogatec.

The entire cascade is 60 metres high and was formed in Upper Triassic dolomites. The first waterfall measures about 9 metres and, after a short pool, spills over into the largest step, which is 23 m high. Two more shorter steps follow (6 and 5 m) and a wide, 22-metre-long cascade. A marked trail leads to the waterfalls, running from the Riher farm in the direction of Riherska jelka and Veliki Rogatec.

Starting point: 46.327114, 14.721349
Difficulty: Undemanding, in places steep marked trail
Walking time: 1 hour

Access: In the centre of Luče, by the parish church, turn in the direction of the Podvolovljek valley. After about 6 kilometres of driving, at the signpost for Rogatec, turn left across the bridge over the Lučnica and follow the local road for another 300 metres, to a small barn where you park. Then to the right of the barn across a small bridge and along a cart track into the forest, where you follow the red markings for the mountain trail to Rogatec. After the bend, the first path to the waterfall branches off to the right across the streambed, while you continue straight ahead along the stream on the marked mountain trail.

At the second junction you cross the streambed and after about 20 minutes of walking you reach a smaller junction where you can already see the waterfall: to the left there is possible access below the foot of the waterfall, to the right and upward above the upper step of the waterfall and before the upper cascade. There is a prepared viewpoint in front of the waterfall: from here you can see the lower two steps of the waterfall, while the upper, topmost step is hidden from view and is visible only quite far from the waterfall, on the right-hand side.
