Podolševa – Sveti Duh

Podolševa – Sveti Duh

The highest-lying settlement in Slovenia, whose identity is marked by the Church of the Holy Spirit at its centre. This church is the main highlight of the Solčava Panoramic Road and the starting point of the route towards Potočka zijalka and the summit of Olševa.

High beneath the cliffs of Olševa lies the hamlet of Podolševa, also called Sveti Duh (Holy Spirit), after the beautiful Baroque church that gives the place a special charm and represents a wonderful vista on the Solčava Panoramic Road.

Today's church, which stands on the site of an older one from the 15th century, was built at the end of the 19th century. Inside it, a Gothic chalice and a unique relief of the Holy Trinity made of yew are preserved. A peculiarity of the relief is the depiction of the Holy Spirit as a young man with the earthly globe. The church also holds the oldest bell with a Gothic inscription.
