The Špančeva Vintner's Cottage, with its exceptional oak wine press from 1791, is one of the oldest and best-preserved vintner's cottages in Slovenia.
The Špančeva Vintner's Cottage from 1818 is a corner where time stands still. A nostalgic cart track leads up to the partly brick-built wine cellar with living quarters above ground, beneath which century-old vines thrive. The Špančeva Vintner's Cottage is a true cultural and ethnological gem in the heritage of Slovenian viticulture.
From first-class grapes, excellent wine is made in the traditional oak press from 1791. Over a glass of top-quality wine, winemaker Anže Podgoršek will gladly explain to you how the wine press works, what traditional cellaring looks like, and how wine and wine bread are made.
Taste the unique wine made from an indigenous white grape variety. In Šmartno ob Paki, the vineyards stretch across the highest altitudes in Slovenia. Travellers and seekers of relaxation love to wander onto the Wine Tourist Route, among hospitable winemakers who in recent years have been creating ever more unique wines that are recognised on a global scale. At the Špančeva Vintner's Cottage, a unique wine is made from the indigenous white grape variety ranfol, and your taste buds will also delight in sampling a particular speciality – wine bread.
More than two centuries ago, Anže's great-grandfather Andrej Podgoršek, alongside the splendid grapevine, also planted a strong family tradition on this scenic patch of land. He erected a mighty oak press, which his descendants still turn today, and in the wooden beauty he arranged a friendly farmhouse parlour where good cheer resounds and the unique Špančevo wine is tasted.
Experience the Alpine vineyard and enjoy an experience that also includes a visit to the Špančeva Vintner's Cottage. A true experience for groups, couples, lovers of cycling and wine tasting.
