Koželj is a popular hill in the south-eastern part of the Šalek Valley and is considered the most accessible hill for the residents of Velenje.

Mornova zijalka is located in the gorge of the Hudi potok stream, near Bele Vode. It is a natural cave with a large entrance, and inside a 40-metre passage as well as one side passage 15 metres long. The cave is significant because remains of prehistoric hunters were found in it, namely stone tools, a human skeleton, metal objects, ancient coins and a wooden dwelling set at 383 metres.

At Žlebnik in Šentvid nad Zavodnjem, on the homestead where Karel Destovnik-Kajuh fell in 1944, the Municipality of Šoštanj opened a memorial to the poet.

Forhtenek Castle (German Forchtenegg) stood on a steep, partly rocky rise to the west above the Velunja stream, in the settlement of Ravne pri Šoštanju east above the Vratar homestead, of which only mighty ruins remain.
