The Parish Church of St Michael in Šoštanj is of a modern design that combines the old and the new. It was built between 1973 and 1990, when it was consecrated. Vrbovec Castle stands at the confluence of the Dreta and Savinja rivers in Nazarje. In documents it is found under the German name Altenburg, while the Slovenian name Vrbovec is an old Slovenian term meaning "in the willows" that grew along the banks of the Dreta River. The Nazarje Franciscan Monastery is a Roman Catholic Franciscan monastery in the Parish of Nazarje. It is located on the Gradišče hill beside the Church of the Annunciation of Mary. The hill was initially the site of a Chapel of the Mother of God, which the Bishop of Ljubljana Tomaž Hren had built in the years 1624-28. Over the years it was visited by more and more pilgrims who needed care.
